Overview

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic’s disruption of traditional learning systems, Verb Education partnered with UNESCO and the Republic of Korea under the Bear II initiative to support Kenya’s Ministry of Education in developing policies and frameworks for remote and flexible learning within the TVET sector.

Technical Undertaking

  • Policy Development: Verb Education worked alongside the National Technical Committee to draft policies for flexible online learning that ensured education continuity during the pandemic.
  • Digital Content Creation: Verb led the digitization of TVET training materials, converting traditional learning resources into online modules accessible to students across Kenya.
  • Platform Development: A focus was placed on enhancing the Kenya Technical Trainers College (KTTC) e-learning platform. This involved system upgrades, increased server capacity, and user training to ensure the platform’s scalability.
  • Capacity Building: Verb Education designed and conducted training programs for TVET trainers, focusing on online teaching methodologies and digital assessment techniques.

Partnerships

This project was conducted in collaboration with UNESCO, the Republic of Korea, the Ministry of Education in Kenya, and the Kenya School of TVET. The combined efforts of these partners helped create a robust policy and infrastructure framework for flexible learning in TVET during unprecedented disruptions.

Outcome

The initiative ensured that TVET institutions could continue operating through online and blended learning models during the pandemic. The project provided the groundwork for the long-term integration of flexible learning into Kenya’s education system, which is now more resilient and capable of adapting to future crises.
